Remember that summer when you built her that lovely little trellis and gingerbread laden garden shed that she loves so much? It still stands proudly in a special spot in the corner of the garden where her pleasant voice can often be heard humming and softly singing while she arranges her latest color bowl creation that will bring a smile from everyone who comes to visit. Yes sir, you did a good thing.
Well it’s your turn. It’s time for that Shed workshop that you have been thinking about for so long. Sure the garage and a few sawhorses work fine but they are a long way from that softly singing voice that you so adore. So with plans in hand go get your special friend and tell her that you can no longer stand to be so far away from her as you work. Ask her to help you pick a spot where you can have your Shed workshop so that you can be nearby to her.
No, don’t surprise her. You will need her help because you don’t want to impose on her serenity while she is in her Garden shed and you surely do not want to choose prime gardening space.
Show her the layout and the elevations and the special designed workbench that you will build and the cabinets where you will keep important necessities nearby to avoid a cluttered look. Allow her to suggest a few modifications to your plan so that she feels it is hers too. Show her the corner you will fill with your fly tying and fishing equipment.
As she hears your passion pouring forth about the special projects that you want to make and the joy it will bring you she will begin to envision you in your Shed workshop and you just may hear a little humming as she walks with you to survey the build site.
Yes, it’s your space. But isn’t there just a little room for some of her stuff too? A beautiful shelf space for some of her nice plants would be the perfect thing to ensure a visit from time to time to water the plants and to survey the latest project. Speaking from experience there is a high probability that a cold glass of lemonade may be served from time to time when she makes this visit.
When it comes to shed workshops, everyone is different. Some people don’t mind working in smaller, tighter spaces and so can get away with smaller sheds. Some of you may need more space and some of you will want the fishing cottage like aesthetics to make your Shed workshop a more inviting and pleasant place to relax and hang out.
The best advice I can give is to find a source that has ample plans to choose from and be sure they include a materials list. That makes it so easy, and then all you have to do is build it and enjoy it.
